Today I have introduced myself to the wonderful art of body moulding!
I used alginate to make a mould of my hand first. It's really easy to use, just mix one part water with one part powder and you're set! As you can see i'm making a mould of my hand, this is the first time I have ever done this so it's just a test run.
The Alginate is fairy quick setting, so you have to be fast! I was surprised when it had set after about 4 minutes of being on my hand.
Removing my hand from the mould was rather tricky, but alginate it flexible and slightly stretchy so its do-able, you just have to be gentle and patient with it, wiggling helps, also squeezing it pulls it away from the skin.
I decided to cast my mould in wax as I thought it would create a rather interesting effect (The string it to help me remove the wax from the mould). This took quite some time to set, about half an hour in total I recall.
Sadly in order to remove this from the mould the mould had to be ripped, but the outcome I got was worth it!
As I said, this was a practice piece, so there are a few things i will do differently, such as giving the mould some extra support when casting as there is a slight deformity with the tip of the fingers where the cast was resting on them. But over all I am very pleased.
I am going to do some other mould of other parts of my body and then they will be mounted onto pieces of wood in a "Hunter's Trophy" fashion. I will post more pictures as I go along.
