Life updated

Seeing as I have pretty much forgotten about this blog up untill now, I thought I should come back and maybe do a little update? Yes?

I realise that nobody reads this but sometimes its nice to prattle on to yourself.

I am so glad to have found a new job which I started on Monday... It's far from my ideal as its a call centre but it's money so it'll fund a lot of other interesting things (hopefully), like my Etsy shop!  Which has been a little neglected recently and it also might enable me to go and take part in some Craft Fairs.  Never know, I might be self employed in a few years...  Well, thats the dream anyway.

Starting to think more about travelling aswell, if I start saving I may be able to go next year. Which would be lovely, run away on an around the world adventure.

Bye for now!

P.S. if anyone ever does look at this blog this is my shop : http://www.etsy.com/shop/Medsy?ref=si_shop

Natural Beauty

I have recently become a little infatuated with the idea of being a "natural beauty", but I still can't stand the idea of not dying my hair which is a little bit of an addiction with me.  With this new craze of mine I've been thinking a lot about all these nasty chemicals which you find in shampoos, soaps and hair dyes which can't be good for you in the long run.

So, I am going to start trying a more natural approach.  This weekend will be step one; starting to use Henna to dye my hair.  I bought a 100g sachet from www.henna-boy.co.uk and I will be trying it out this weekend, so that will be exciting, although I have come to realise it takes a very long time as you have to mix the henna the night before and when you apply you should leave it on for about 4 hours to get the most dramatic effects.  But I am willing to try, seeing as there are some added benefits to using henna other than the colour; its got no chemicals in it when you buy body art quality, has been said to leave your hair healthy and shiny and can even make it thicker apparently.

I think the next step will be to try using shampoo bars, which also contain less chemicals than bottles of shampoo as well as the added bonus of less packaging (this makes the little environmentalist in me happy!)  I have also been thinking about trying to make my own soaps as after looking around on the internet it doesn't look as hard as I originally thought and this also means I know exactly what's in these bars of wonder I am rubbing all over myself and can make them in fragrances I like, creating my own scent!

I shall let you all know how the hair goes this weekend and will probably upload some photographs and maybe do a little "How to".

How to spend your Sunday afternoon

Today I have introduced myself to the wonderful art of body moulding!

I used alginate to make a mould of my hand first.  It's really easy to use, just mix one part water with one part powder and you're set! As you can see i'm making a mould of my hand, this is the first time I have ever done this so it's just a test run.
The Alginate is fairy quick setting, so you have to be fast!  I was surprised when it had set after about 4 minutes of being on my hand.

Removing my hand from the mould was rather tricky, but alginate it flexible and slightly stretchy so its do-able, you just have to be gentle and patient with it, wiggling helps, also squeezing it pulls it away from the skin.

I decided to cast my mould in wax as I thought it would create a rather interesting effect (The string it to help me remove the wax from the mould).  This took quite some time to set, about half an hour in total I recall.

Sadly in order to remove this from the mould the mould had to be ripped, but the outcome I got was worth it!

As I said, this was a practice piece, so there are a few things i will do differently, such as giving the mould some extra support when casting as there is a slight deformity with the tip of the fingers where the cast was resting on them.  But over all I am very pleased.

I am going to do some other mould of other parts of my body and then they will be mounted onto pieces of wood in a "Hunter's Trophy" fashion.  I will post more pictures as I go along.

Holy cow...

Was just browsing the web when I saw an advert that MAC Cosmetics had released a Disney range, out of curiosity I click thinking it would be all Cinderella etc... oh oh oh, I was wrong!

Disney villain themed make up, beautiful, especially seeing as Maleficent is one featured in the range.  My all time favourite villain ever since I was a child... I think I may even end up paying the extra price tag just so I can have her face on my lipstick.

And a month goes by...

... suprisingly nothing has happened.

Well, nothing of signifcance anyway. What an interesting blog I have.

Feeling pretty run down at the minute, not quite sure what is wrong but I'll be okay soon.  I'm still working as a receptionist which is a suprise, should stop with the general 9 to 5 by next week as I'll be going back to College. (Which has already been postponed by a week due to building work).

Kind of looking forward to going College again and studying Art as I don't feel like I have done ANYTHING creative of recent, especially since I have been working.

Planning on getting my sewing machine out again soon, quite fancy making myself some 40's inspired tea dresses which should be fun!  Be interesting to see if I can even sew in a straight line anymore due to my lack of practice.  As you may have guessed by this comment my shop opening did not happen, I havn't had the energy or time to even think about it which is sad.  Maybe I will think about it again when I have some spare time to play with.

Over and out.

Long time no see

Kind of figured it was time for an update, not really had time seeing as I have been working.  Have to say, working as a receptionist is dull... I seriously don't understand how the woman I was covering hadn't gone completely insane from boredom and routine, (no wonder she needed a holiday).

The work did have some "benefits" I suppose, I got to meet a Darren Gough; a famous cricket player for England who also won Strictly Come Dancing.

Here is one picture that was taken of Lucie, myself with him at Nantwich show,  I believe photo's like this have been shown in various newspapers so I am pasted in papers dressed as a Collier's Cheese Miner -glorious-.

I suppose the costume needs some form of explanation, the company I was working for deals with Dairy and own a cheese called Colliers, which was featured at the show.  I was basically working as one of them annoying people that hand out samples. Surprisingly it was quite a pleasant job; considering I am awful at talking to people (and hand feeding old men isn't exactly my speciality either).

In other non cheese related news I applied and failed at getting a position as an apprentice tattoo artist at Studio 78, but there is still hope!  Yes!  I've been told I have potential, so I just need to perfect photo realism and go back to college this year as planned and he will reconsider me and has also offered to keep looking over my work and comment on my progress e.t.c.  So potentially I could be inking skins within the next two years or so.
